Sports: The college is proud to announce thatPunjabi University has allotted us sports wing in four disciplines namely Boxing, Weight Lifting, Gymnastics (Boys) and Gymnastics (Girls). Our sportspersons have come up to the expectations and trust placed by the University in them, by bagging 17 positions, including twelve University championships.

We have to cut short a long list of winners and announce the names of a few outstanding spots persons:

·         Perry Goyal represented Indian Cricket Team for World Cup under 19 held in Malaysia.

·         Mahesh Kumar won Gold Medal, Silver Medal and a Bronze medal in All India Inter-University Gymnastics Championship and was declared Best Gymnast of the Championship.

·         Manju Sharma won the Gold Medal and Silver Medal in All India Inter-University Gymnastics Championship (Individual and Team Gold).

·         Ravi Kumar won the Gold Medal in All India Inter University in best Physique in 60 Kg category.

·         Munish Kumar won the Gold Medal in All India Inter University Championship in Best Physique in 65 kg category.

·         Ruchi Trikha won the Gold Medal in Senior National Fencing Championship in EPEE event.

·         Pooja Bansal won the Gold Medal in Senior National Baseball Championship.

·         Steffi Cardozo won the gold medal in Junior Federation Cup in Shot-put event.

·         Sukhdeep Singh won the Silver Medal in All India Inver-University Gymmanstics (Individual and Team Gold).

·         Parvesh Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Sheena Rani, Baljit Kaur and Dimple were the playing members of the Punjabi University teams that won the Gold Medal in All India Championships.

·         Manisha Sharma has been the best player of Punjab State in Table Tennis and has been the captain of the State Team consecutively for five years.

 

Inter College Lawn Tennis Championship:

The said Championship was held in the College campus on 4th and 5th Oct. 2007. Mr. Raj Khurana Chief Parliamentary Secretary inaugurated the tournament, where Sh. Anil Bajaj, Senior Deputy Mayor, Patiala was also present. Our College Team won the championship. Sh. Saravdaman Bharat, member Dist. Planning Board and Dr. Parminder Singh Bawa, Chairman of Punjabi University Lawn-Tennis Selection Committee gave away the prizes to the winners.

 

Co-curricular Activities:

Our students participated in the Zonal Youth Festival held at Public College Samana and bagged the following positions:

  3. 4th in Solo Western Song
  4. 4th in Giddha
  5. 4th in Folk Orchestra

 

NCC (Girls) Army Wing:

ü      Our cadet u/o Alisha Walia participated in Republic Day Parade 2008 held at Delhi.

ü      u/o Alisha Walia also won Sahara Scholarship of Rs. 12,500/- on 19.09.2007. She was declared Best Commander in ATC camp at Sandhwan (Ropar).

ü      Sargent Pooja Srivastava and Sargent Kuljeet Kaur participated in NIC camp at Chakbama near Kohima (Nagaland) from Nov. 23, 2007 to 8th Dec. 2007.

ü      14 Cadets attended ATC held at Patiala.

ü      9 of our cadets participated in RD parade 2008 held at Patiala.

 

NCC (Boys) Army Wing

ü      u/o Alamjit Singh won the prize of Rs. 3000/- from the Group Commander of Patiala Group NCC as the Best Cadet.

ü      Cadet Inderbir Singla and Baljinder attended the NCC, NIC Camp held in ……… (Kerala) in Jan. 2008.

ü      Cadet Greesh Arora participated in Pre R.D. Camp held at Dhuri (Sangrur)

ü      Two cadets of this college attended Army Attachment Camp held at Patiala in oct. 2007.

ü      11 Cadets of this college attended ATC camp and Randeep Singh was adjudged the best figure.

ü      Gireesh Arora and Mandeep Singh presented the guard of Honour to the Director General NCC at Chandigarh.

 

Healthy Practices:

  1. Blood Donation Camp: The Camp was organized in the College by the NSS and NCC units as a part of week long celebrations on the occasion of Modi Jayanti 2007. 85 units of blood were donated. The camp was sponsored by State Bank of Patiala.
  2. Blood Group Check-up Camp: NSS units of the college organized Blood Group check-up camp for the students and the staff members. A large number of students and staff members participated.
  3. 10-days NSS Camp: The Camp was held from 21st Dec. 2007 to 31st Dec. 2007 in the College Campus. Eminent scholars, educationists, social workers and councellors interacted with the students. 124 NSS volunteers and 12 teachers participated in the camp.
  4. Vanamahotsav was celebrated in the college on 8th Sept. 2007, with the co-operation of Basant Ritu Club, which provided more than 100 saplings, planted by the students and the staff. The function was inaugurated by Sh. Karamjit Singh Jatana, Dist. Forest Officer, Patiala.
  5. Ozone layer protection day celebrated: The College celebrated this day where Er. Birinderjit Singh, Member Secretary, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Patiala made an impressive presentation highlighting the importance of protection of ozone layer. Paper-reading and poster making contests were also organized and prizes were given away to the winners.
  6. Seminar on Aids Awareness and Release of Book: The Seminar was sponsored by State Bank of Patiala. Three eminent doctors of the city Dr. Rajinder Gupta, Dr. Harbir Kaur Rao and Dr. Dharam Vir Gandhi spoke on the occasion. A quiz contest was also organized on the occasion. A book on Aids Awareness, authored by Dr. Rajiv Sharma was also released.
  7. Inter-College Science Fair: The fair was held on 20th Oct. 2007. Model and Poster Making Competitions on the theme of "Science and Man in Present Perspective" were organized.

The fair was sponsored by Punjab Academy of Sciences (Patiala Chapter) represented by Prof. I.J.S. Bansal, Dr. Tarlok Singh and Dr. J. L. Bhanot. The Chief Guest Dr. Baldev Kumar gave away the prizes to the winners.

  1. Lecture on Chemical Bonding: It was held on 5th Nov. 2007. Dr. K. C. Kalia (Former Prof. and Head, Dept of Chemistry, Punjabi University, Patiala) delivered an informed and enlightening lecture on the subject for the students of MSc (Chemistry).

 

Exhibition by the Department of Fashion Designing: The exhibition of apperals designed and prepared by the students of the Department was inaugurated by Mr. D.S. Grewal, Deputy Commissioner Patiala and Mr. Anil Bajaj, Senior Deputy Mayor, Patiala. The motive behind this exercise was to provide an opportunity to the students to sharpen their skills so that they become competent enough to setup their own ventures later on and become employers rather than seeking employment elsewhere.

 

Library enriched: The College appreciates the significance of the width and depth of the knowledge, which the students must possess for enriching their personality. We continue to add latest publications in different fields of knowledge to the already existing rich collection of more than 50,000 books. Our library subscribes to 19 Newspapers and 33 magazines / journals. Approx. 900 new books were added during the year.

 

Five-Days course in Pissi-Culture: Students of B.Sc.-III (Medical) attended this course in the Fishery Department of Govt. of Punjab at Patiala. The students got training in fish breeding, rearing, maintenance of fish ponds and others related aspects of pissi-culture.

 

Inauguration of New Courses: It is highly satisfying to record that continuing the tradition of innovation and enabling the students to enter the globalized world with an edge over others, the college has introduced new courses of M.Sc.(I.T.) and M.Sc. (Chemistry) from the current session. Sh. Raj Khurana, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Punjab Govt. presided over the inaugural function held in the Campus. He was kind enough to announce a grant of Rs. One Lac, which has already been received, for the infrastructural development of the college.

 

Summer Courses: The College has also organized summer courses of Computer Fundamentals, Mathematics, Computerised Accounting and Computer Aided Designing of Fashion Technology during the Summer vacation.

 

Computer Lab Set-up: To meet he additional workload of new courses the college has set up a new computer lab, equipped with the latest computer technology. 

 

Achievements of Placement cell: This organ of the college has been performing yoeman's service since 2004 by providing employment opportunities at the campus level.

·         More than 200 students got themselves registered with the cell and participated in written tests and interviews.

·         Leading companies including IBM Daksh, Wipro BPO, Radio Today Ltd., Mind Works Global Media, Apex Labs, HDFC Bank and GenPact visited the campus during the session and offered more than 45 jobs to the successful candidates. Apart from this 36 candidates were short listed by them.

·         In close co-ordination with the placement cells of other professional institutions, our students got an opportunity to appear in out-station campuses for interviews and jobs. 10 students were offered jobs there.

·         A seminar on career counseling was organized in co-ordination with Dist. Employment exchange, where Ms. Rajinder Kailly interacted with the students to make them aware about the employment opportunities available and encouraged them to become career conscious.

 

Educational Tours:

Visit to Duke Industries: Students of Fashion Designing Department visited Duke Industries on 8th Feb. 2008 for getting first hand experience and the feel of environment in garment making industry.

 

Excursions by the students of Bio-Technology:

  1. One-day visit to Thaper Centre for Industrial Research and Development was organized for the students of this department. They visited the centre to gain familiarity with the latest equipment and technology used in this upcoming field of scientific development.
  2. A visit to Patiala Distillery: Our students also visited this Distillery for understanding the process of fermentation and effluent treatment carried out there.
  3. Visit to Central Research Institute (CRI) Kasauli: The Students visited this institute on 25th Dec. 2007. They got an opportunity to see the production of vaccines and sera.

 

Tour by the students of Bio-Informatics: Two-days tour to Shimla and its surrounding areas was organized in Nov. 2007. The students visited three Industrial Units at Parwanoo and Vaknaghat for gaining first hand information of drug designing and drug testing.

 

One-day excursion by the Dept of Tour and Travel Management:- The students visited four star Hotel K.C. Residency at Chandigarh. They got an opportunity to appreciate the working of the Hotel Industry.

 

Tour to Shimla: The students of Faculty of Arts visited Shimla and Pinjore on 19th Feb. 2008. It provided them an opportunity to observe the nature and understand the culture of the people of hilly area.

 

Visit to Dalhousie Hills: The Students from Medical stream went to Dalhousie for studying the flora and fauna found in this region.

 

Visit to Morni Hills: Students of B.Sc. – III visited this ancient town of Haryana state on 21st Jan. 2008 and got an opportunity to appreciate the architecture of Fort and temple situated there.

 

Contribution of the Alumni Association

The College is thankful to the Association of Old Students' for contributing
Rupees 1,25,000/- for the carpeting of passages within the campus. We are sure they will continue to patronize their Alma Mater.

Modi Jayanti Celebrations: Modi Jayanti is celebrated on 21st of Oct. every year. The Yajna was performed on the 132nd Birth Anniversary of Rai Bahadur Multani Mal Modi, in whose memory the college was founded by Padma Bhushan Rai Bahadur Gujjar Mal Modi.
