About the library

Library is the backbone to all the academic activities. Knowing the importance of the library, the founder of the college had set up the library in a seprarate building, keeping in mind the future expansions, right from the beginning in 1967. The college has well equipped, spacious, well lit, well stocked library. Library has been set up in a double-decor complex. It has wide range of stock in all streams of subjects to cater the need of students, teachers and other members.

The library starts functioning in June,1967. The founder Librarian were S Manmohan Singh who joind the college in July,1968 as AssttLibrarian and retired as librarian Feb27,1996. From March 1,1996 to Aug28,1997 S Joginder Singh officiate as Librarian. Than Mr.Rupinder Singh Joind as Librarian on Aug29,1997 and resinged on July 6, 1999. On Nov 26, 1999 Mr. Amit Mittal took charge as a Librarian, to 21 May, 2006, S Joginder Singh Bajwa Asstt. Librarian Officiate as Librarian from May to date.

Timing of the Library:

9.00 am to 4.00 pm on all college working days including vacations.

Membership:

The library is providing membership to all its students, faculty members, retired staff members and eminent persons of Patiala City.

System of issuing:

Browney System of issuing, It take hardly 30 seconds to issuing a book, thus saves the time of the reader and make the sustem effcient.

System of Classification:

Colon Classification, library is follwoing Colon Classification scheme by SR Ranganathan.

System of Cateloguing:

CCC with some amendments according to local need.

Inter Library Loan Facility:

Library is providing Inter-library Loan facility to its users.Library has signed MOU with three other libraries for Ill. The library is-

  1. Public Library-Gurmukh Singh Musafir(Central state Library),Patiala.
  2. Academic Library-Punjabi University Library,Patiala.
  3. Special Library-Thaper Intitute of Engineering and Technology Library,Patiala.

Book Bank:

Library extend Book facility to the position holders at Uni./Board level.

Open Access:

We allow open access and book consultation facility to the student.

Catalogue:

We have well maintained up to date catalogue with three approaches:
  1. Subject approach(with class no.)
  2. Author approach
  3. Title approach

Photostat Facility:

We are providing photocopy facility to our students at a vary normal rate @ 50p. per flash.

Reading Hall:

Library has well spacious reading hall with accommodation of 200 readers and a separate reading hall with 50 seats in Computer Wing.

UGC Programmes:

Library has installed adish antenna for viewing UGC channel like Gyan Darshan to its students.

Special Programme:

Library has intalled a big size TV with DVD playrr for viewing special subject related programmes during Library Periods.

Departmental Libraries:

We provide support to anrich departmental libraries by way of providing books on loan and help maintaining records there of.

Public Reading Room:

WE have a seperate reading hall for Public. We subscribe 4 news for this section.

Future Perspectives:

  1. Library is on way to fully automation of its service and managment. Database of more than 32,000(about 75%) books have already been completed.Library management Software is under construction almost 90% is completed.
  2. Library is going to provide On-line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) on the internet in the near future.

The student of collage have the rare privilege of utilizing the services of one of the richest libraries in the region. This magnificient library keeps the students abreast with the latest development in all the areas of knowledge. It has a collection of more than 50,000 books including an adequate number of the latest and the best book onall subject to meet the requirements of the students. It subscribes to more than 40 journals and periodicals 19 newspaper and 33 magazines.400 new books added every year. The roomy and well-furnished reading hall can accommodate about 300 students. The library has a separate section for computer science and business management,with CDs,Books,and Journals. Open access to books is available to the student. Every student can borrow 2 books for 14 days on the library card. books can be got re-issued in case of need. The library has been equoipped with Audio-Visual Adds to show educative programmer to the students.

Library Rules

  1. The library will remain open on all working days of the school,except the last saturday of the month,between 10a.m. to 3p.m.
  2. Perfect silence must be observed in the library and reading room.
  3. A student may borrow 2 books from the library at a time.
  4. A student is normally permitted to keep the books for 14 days.
  5. A book may be re-issued if there is no demand for it from others.
  6. A fine of Rs.5/- per day,per book/volume shall be charged for the period it is kept overdue.Special fine may be imposed if the books are not returned even on demand.
  7. Books and other library property are not to be marked or demaged.
  8. Borrowers are held responsible for all the books issued on their library card.
  9. No further book shall be issued to a defaulting borrower until he has returned the books and paid the fine due from him.
  10. Reference books,rare books and current periodicals are available only for cosultation in the library.
  11. A book issued to a student willhave to be returned at any time in an emergent case.
  12. Sub-letting of books is strictly prohibited.
  13. At the time of admission, every student will be supplied with two library tickets bearing a number assigned to him. A library card is non-transerable. In case it is lost, the borrower will be responsible for the books issued on the card. Loss of a library card should be immediately reported to the Librarian. When a library card is lost, a special depost of Rs. 50/-, refundable on the expiry of validity of the card will be issued to a student at the discretion of the Principal on the payment of Rs. 10/- per card. A student must retun the library card to the Librarian on leaving the college.
