Expert Lecture on ‘Covid-19 and the Challenges for Indian Education Sector’ organized at Modi College, Patiala

PG Department of Commerce, M.M. Modi College organized an Expert lecture on “Covid-19 and the Challenges for Indian Education Sector” under the guidance of Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar.  The lecture was delivered by Prof. (Ms.) Ravi Kiran, Head, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Former Professor In-charge, Alumni Relations, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala. College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the speaker and discussed the anticipated post COVID challenges to the teachers and students for online conduct of classes. He also expressed his concern over the growing seriousness of the adverse impact of Covid-19 on the economy as a whole. He was also apprehensive about the ability of future generations to accept constructively the failures in life after attaining easy success in the online examination.

Prof. Neena Sareen, Dean (Commerce) and Head, Department of Commerce formally introduced the speaker and discussed the relevance of the chosen topic.

Prof. Ravi Kiran discussed the concept of blended learning and also suggested that educational institutes should continue to implement innovative techniques that are affordable and will provide an effective instruction medium for personalizing the learning for the students. She emphasized on redesigning course content to meet the current and future needs of dynamic education system. She also elaborated upon the challenges faced by the current education system for the implementation of e-learning in the pandemic times. She had an interactive session with the students for comprehension of the animated cartoons related to various concepts. In her lecture, she highlighted that post pandemic times could see a blend of E-learning and face-to-face teaching.

 Around 450 participants attended the webinar.  Prof. Parminder Kaur conducted the stage and proposed the Vote of Thanks.
