Department of Physics M. M. Modi College, Patiala organized an extension lecture on ‘The Origin and Evolution of the Universe’
The Department of Physics, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized an extension lecture on the topic ‘The Origin and Evolution of the Universe’ for undergraduate students of Non Medical and Computer Science streams. This lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Sahijpal, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. This extension lecture focused on the evolution of solar system, stars,black hole and origin of life.
College principal, Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the speaker and said that the scientific worldview has freed us from prejudice and ignorance. As we ponder deep into the universe, the boundary between science and philosophy seems to fade. He motivated the students to observe and experiment the physics related with various natural phenomena. The speaker was formally introduced by Dr. Kavita, assistant professor, Department of Physics. She said that the main objective of this lecture is to develop understanding of our origin so that we can move a step towards human development and advancement by gaining knowledge about universe.
Dr. Sandeep Sahijpal encompassed various aspects of the universe like curvature of space-time and its various phenomena like nucleosynthesis, big bang and explained thoroughly about the formation of universe. He told about the reason for so high temperature of the sun and the processes like nuclear fusion involved which lead to the existence of life. At the end of the session, he suggested various softwares to quench the curiosity of students regarding the universe. Students raised many queries related to the talk and how to pursue in the field. Dr. Sahijpal made students aware of various career options in the field of space physics after graduation.
This lecture was coordinated by Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Physics Department. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Pooja Rani, Assistant Professor, Physics Department, Dr. Palvinder Kaur and Dr. Kanandeep were also present during the extension lecture. About 200 students participated in this lecture.
