Modi College wins Punjabi University Inter-College Boxing (Men) Championship
The Boxing (Men) team of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today won overall three day Inter-College Punjabi University Boxing Championship. The championship was inaugurated by College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar. Sh. Harpreet Singh Hundal, District Sports Officer, Patiala presided over the function. He congratulated the winning team and the coaches and said that sports are crucial for development of responsible and disciplined citizens with rich cultural and ethical values. On this occasion, International Boxer Varinder Singh was also honoured for winning Best Boxer Award; he is a former student of Modi College, Patiala. He is the first Punjabi to get this Award.
Dr. Gurdeep Singh Sandhu, Dean Sports shared that 74 boxers from 26 teams of various colleges participated in this three day Boxing Championship. Modi College got 26 points and stood first while Guru Kashi College, Damdama Sahib stood second within 17 points.
Dr. Nishan Singh, Head of Sports Department said that our boxers Gurvinder Singh, Simran Singh, Karanveer Sharma and Riyal Puri won Gold Medals in their specific weight categories. Boxer Ankit Chaudhry won Silver Medal while boxer Karanveer Rana and Ankit More got bronze medals. He also told that our Boxer Riyal Puri has performed well at International Boxing Competitions.
College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar congratulated the sports department and appreciated the efforts of NIS coach Sh. Tarsem lal Gupta, S. Jatinder Raj Singh and Sh. Sikandar Patel. He also praised Sh. Jaswant Singh, Boxing Coach from Punjabi University, Patiala for the role of observer. He also appreciated the guidance and hard-work put in by Dr. Nishan Singh, Prof. Harneet Singh and Prof. Mandeep Kaur.

ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਅੰਤਰ-ਕਾਲਜ ਬਾਕਸਿੰਗ (ਪੁਰਸ਼) ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਜਿੱਤੀ
ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਤਿੰਨ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਅੰਤਰ-ਕਾਲਜ ਬਾਕਸਿੰਗ (ਪੁਰਸ਼) ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਅੱਜ ਸੰਪਨ ਹੋਈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਜਬਾਨ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਰੋਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾੜਦਿਆਂ ਓਵਰ-ਆਲ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਯੋਗਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਖੇਡ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਸ. ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੁੰਦਲ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਅਵਸਰ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਯੋਗਿਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਦੀ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਮੁੱਲੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਧ ਰਹੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਗਿਰਾਵਟ ਦੇ ਬਦਲ ਵਜੋਂ ਨਵੀਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਬਾਕਸਰ ਵਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਬੈਸਟ ਬਾਕਸਰ ਘੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਨਮਾਣਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦਾ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਰਹਿ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇੱਥੇ ਇਹ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਵਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਬਾਕਸਰ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਯੋਗਿਤਾ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਡੀਨ (ਸਪੋਰਟਸ) ਡਾ. ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਿੰਨ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਬਾਕਸਿੰਗ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ 26 ਟੀਮਾਂ ਦੇ 74 ਬਾਕਸਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਿਆ। ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ 26 ਅੰਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਦਮਦਮਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ 17 ਅੰਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਡ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਗੁਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸਿਮਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕਰਨਵੀਰ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਆਲ ਪੁਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੋਲਡ ਮੈਡਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ। ਬਾਕਸਰ ਅੰਕਿਤ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਨੇ ਸਿਲਵਰ ਮੈਡਲ ਹਾਸਿਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕਸਰ ਕਰਨਵੀਰ ਰਾਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਕਿਤ ਮੋਰ ਨੇ ਕਾਂਸੀ ਦੇ ਤਗਮੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦਾ ਬਾਕਸਰ ਰਿਆਲ ਪੁਰੀ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਜੇਤੂ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾਰਕਬਾਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਯੋਗਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਫ਼ਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਐਨ.ਆਈ.ਐਸ. ਕੋਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਤਰਸੇਮ ਲਾਲ ਗੁਪਤਾ, ਸ. ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਿਕੰਦਰ ਪਟੇਲ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਬਾਕਸਿੰਗ ਕੋਚ ਸ. ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਅਬਜਰਵਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਡ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਡਾ. ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਹਰਨੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਡਮ ਮਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਯੋਗ ਅਗੁਵਾਈ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
