Punjabi University Inter College Lawn Tennis Tournament commenc ed today at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala. Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Director, Sports, Punjabi University, Patiala inaugurated the tournament. Welcoming the participants, he appreciated the sportspersons of the college for their contribution in University sports activities due to which Punjabi University was able to win Mulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy for the 7th year. He stressed upon the need to create sports culture in educational institutions and assured co-operation and assistance by the University. He also praised the sincere efforts and able guidance of Prof Nishan Singh of the College in the sports achievements of the college.

            College Principal, Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the guests and highlighted the achievements of the college in sports. He informed that the college had won Maharaja Yadvindra Singh Trophy (General Championship – Men) as well as Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur (General Championship – Women). He further said that 14 Sports wings are successfully running in the college. The college has got the distinction of being 2nd best contributor to the MAKA Trophy won by the Punjabi University.

            Dronacharya Awardee Sh. A.K. Bansal, Chief Coach (Hockey) and Sh. Prem Sharma, Boxing Coach, NIS, Patiala were the Guests of Honour on this occasion.

            Opening match was played between the teams of University College, Ghudda (Bathinda) and Punjabi University Campus teams. The Team of Punjabi University Campus won this match.

            Dr. Harcharan Singh, Registrar of the College conducted the stage. Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Chairman, College Sports Committee thanked the guests.
